In 2004, two of Petawawa’s three family doctors stopped practicing in the area. That left one doctor at the limit of his patient load to meet our medical needs.

Concerned citizens stepped forward from the town and Canadian Forces Base Petawawa. A Community Health Committee formed. Plans for the PCFHC, a not-for-profit, were soon in place. 

​

During the winter and spring, people made donations. In July 2005 the PCHFC opened its doors. By November 2006, it had provided care for more than 3,700 people during more than 6,200 patient visits.

​

As of 2024, the PCFHC has grown to have over 8,000 active patients, 15+ doctors, 7 nurse practitioners, 2 nurses, a social worker, pharmacist, dietitian, midwife and admin staff.  The PCFHC also provides space to multiple community businesses like Heritage Hearing, Champlain Lung Health, Diabetes Education Outreach Team from the Pembroke Hospital, VTAC Community Assessment Centre and more!
